About The Artist:

Alicia Svigals is the world’s leading klezmer fiddler and a founder of the Grammy-winning Klezmatics, whom she co-led for seventeen years. She has played with and composed for violinist Itzhak Perlman, the Kronos Quartet, playwrights Tony Kushner and Eve Ensler, the late poet Allen Ginsberg, Robert Plant and Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, singer/songwriter Debbie Friedman, Hasidic superstar Avraham Fried and many others. She has appeared on David Letterman, MTV, Good Morning America, PBS’ Great Performances, and various NPR programs. She is accompanied by pianist Uli Geissendoerfer

Kumah Echah embodies the spirit of the kibbutz. Its composer, Shalom Postolski (1898-1949) was one of the founders of Kibbutz Ein Harod, and wrote many songs that reflect the life and the optimism of the young pioneers who contributed so much in the pre-State era. This particular song was written towards the end of the 1920’s, and was especially popularized through the choreography of Rivkah Sturman, a fellow member of Kibbutz Ein Harod, and one of Israel’s most important folk dance figures. The lyrics of this song were penned by the prolific Yitzchak Shenhar (1902-1957).

The National Breast Cancer Coalition Fund (NBCCF) supports the educational efforts of the National Breast Cancer Coalition. It empowers and trains advocates to be effective in every aspect of the fight to end breast cancer.
