About the song:

Bein Cholot Midbar is a wonderful example of the process that transmits popular songs quickly and easily -- but inevitably leaves behind the identity of the composer and lyricist. The musical style is of the late yishuv, and the lyrics reflect the values and language of the era: "Walk with me through the length and breadth of our new land. Don't worry, I'll be with you -- I am a 'Hebrew soldier'." As with many songs that are transmitted orally, variant versions of the lyric are extant, and one known as "Yocheved" substitutes that name for the anonymous "yaldonet" (little girl). The song was included on one of several 1958 albums by Tsadok Savir, a singer and comedian at the height of his (somewhat short-lived) popularity.
